Judge: No More Excuses for Would-Be Michael Jackson Jurors
By: Linda Deutsch
April 16, 2013

A number of potential jurors have handed over last-minute notes begging off the Katherine Jackson-AEG legal battle.

A Los Angeles judge says except for medical emergencies, she won't consider any more excuses from potential jurors in the lawsuit by Michael Jackson's mother against concert promoter AEG.

Superior Court Judge Yvette Palazuelos received a flurry of last-minute notes Tuesday from people asking to leave the case because of scheduling and financial hardships they had not claimed earlier. She excused 10 more panelists from a pool of 87 and ordered attorneys to begin individual questioning.

One man declared he disliked Jackson and his whole family and thought Katherine Jackson's lawsuit blaming AEG for the singer's death is frivolous. He was excused because his employer wouldn't pay for his jury service. Other prospects were less outspoken.

Jury selection in the case is scheduled to continue Wednesday.

Prospective jurors voice anti-Jackson opinions

Prospective jurors voice anti-Jackson opinions
by AP

4/20/13

Lawyers in the wrongful death lawsuit brought by Michael Jackson's mother began using challenges to reject prospective jurors Friday but were confronted with a new set of panelists who had strong opinions critical of the superstar singer.

The search was to continue Monday for jurors who could be impartial toward Jackson and AEG, the company that promoted Jackson's ill-fated "This is It" concert.

No sooner had the attorneys excused two panelists for bias and used five of their 16 peremptory challenges to remove others without stating a cause than they were confronted with new problems.

One man said he had formed a strong opinion that Jackson was responsible for his own death.

"He was a weird person, too eccentric," he said when asked his opinion of Jackson as a person.

The jury candidate, an attorney, said he had heard that Jackson took strong narcotics to sleep.

"So you had a strong opinion that Michael Jackson caused his own death by taking strong narcotics?" asked Mrs. Jackson's attorney, Brian Panish.

"Yes," said the man. "...That's my opinion, not the facts, based on what I heard." He said he learned most of what he knew about the case from the Internet.

"I don't think I could be impartial," he said.

Another prospective juror who is the son of a doctor said he had a strong bias against Jackson and thought that Dr. Conrad Murray was not at fault in the superstar's death. He said he knew that Murray had been convicted of involuntary manslaughter for giving Jackson an overdose of the anesthetic propofol.

"I don't believe Dr. Murray did anything wrong," said the man. "People take prescription drugs on their own. There may be some responsibility by Michael Jackson himself."

The man said he is also biased against people who seek large monetary awards in lawsuits involving doctors. He said his late father was an orthopedic surgeon and told him about the pitfalls of malpractice claims against physicians.

Mrs. Jackson's lawsuit claims AEG hired Dr. Conrad Murray as Jackson's physician without checking his credentials. Murray was later convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of the superstar.

Attorneys said outside court that the jury selection process could stretch through next week

I was very annoyed AGAIN with this judge after reading the court tweets yesterday. Despite obvious prospective (and chosen seated jurors) stated biases, and Jackson Family attorneys requests to dismiss them, this crap judge KEPT them. Finally late in the afternoon, during a final process of voir dire, both sides were allowed to throw out a couple that were kept. Plaintiffs dismissed 2, and defendants dismissed 3. That made the jury slightly better and fairer but there is still anti MJ bias because some of the jurors changed their stories to make themselves appear fairer AFTER saying anti-MJ statements!

They say opening statements to begin 4/29/13.

Do they have all the journos and alternates?

I hope they get rid of all the haters, that is no place for them.

keep the impartial ones that don't think either way, that's how it's supposed to be.

Or this is just yet another way to screw Michael Sad Sad Sad

Michael Jackson - Jury Picked For Michael Jackson Wrongful Death Trial
23 April 2013

Six men and six women have been selected to serve on the jury in the Michael Jackson wrongful death trial.
Margaret Thatcher, Cathedral, Michael Jackson

The 12 jurors were picked on Monday (22Apr13), almost three weeks after jury selection began in Los Angeles Superior Court.

A further six people will be chosen as alternates for the trial, which is expected to last at least two months, although the judge overseeing the case has yet to set a date for opening statements and testimony to begin.

The King of Pop's mother, Katherine Jackson, is suing AEG Live bosses, the promoters behind the superstar's doomed This Is It comeback concerts, claiming they were negligent in ignoring life-threatening health concerns. She wants them to be held responsible for hiring Conrad Murray, the medic who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for causing the singer's 2009 death, and is reportedly seeking more than $40 billion for loss of future earnings and other damages.
