OH this is fun. Well let me say, I really think some of these people who have won already (more than they should have imo) need to take a seat. Also movies that have pretty much already been done-Like for instance Matthew M. doing "Dallas BC" is too much like Tom Hanks "Philadelphia" (also a true story) so no to that movie in any category imo. Other movies like 12 years a slave also have been done through the years and have been wonderful but I want something NOT done before-whether through the new tech or a NEW story like Capt. Phillips about the pirates off of the Horn of Africa taking the container ship (US flagged) or the amazing new tech in Gravity. I will make my picks on that LA Times page and come back and post my picks here Wink

Post by Admin Sun Mar 02, 2014 5:01 pm

OK-here are mine -

Best Picture: Gravity - Because of too many reasons to mention here. Suffice it to say that-It is similar to 1 actor playing the lead role and practically the only actor in the entire movie (Sandra Bullock) like Tom Hanks played in "Castaway" and for which he won the AW).

1st - Best Actress:
Sandra Bullock! I LOVE her and she is amazing playing Dr. Stone in "Gravity". Fav scene: She asks the Chinese astronaut who was on the Chinese space station when he was singing what sounded like a lullaby to his baby back on earth to please keep singing so she could fall asleep hearing that-not feel so alone in the escape vehicle which was out of fuel. She was coming to the realization that she was going to die that day-she could see the station near by-but there was no way to make it there. After all she had already gone through - she was giving in to what she believed was her impending death. TEARS! That scene still gets to me! then..... (I will not say if she was right-if you have not seen this movie - so no spoilers from me)

Best Actor:
Bruce Dern for "Nebraska" -why? He deserves an Oscar for his years in the business and he has been reviewed to have been perfection in his role playing the old man leaving to get his prize money after reading an email that he was the winner. Nobody believed the email-thought it was a scam. The story is about family and brings them together as never before.

More picks coming from me later.

For me:

Best Picture: GRAVITY! So much about this movie is mind blowing to write it all here! I agree that scene admin was so emotional and she acted so well - I was truly in awe of her ability to do that caliber of acting! And so...

Best Actress: Sandra B!!!

Yay Capricious! TY for your picks.

Tidbit factoid: So it's raining in LA and they had plastic on the red carpet. It stopped raining so they pulled the plastic off-then it rained again so the carpet is wet. The people in their long gowns and trains will have them ruined - that sucks. (and it is a little funny - sorry but it is).

Hubby and me like Sandra B too  Smile  Jewish actors are the tops  cheers

just slightly OT we were watching one of my 2 favourite DVD's the other evening. Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase in 'Seems Like Old Times'. And Woody Allen & Diane Keaton in 'Play It Again Sam' LOL, both films highly amusing. I also love Richard Dreyfuss.

As for the new film "Gravity" it looks to be epic!

I've been watching. Disappointed in most of the gowns this year. That color blush and beige tones are boring. Love the midnight blue on Amy Adams and the bright colors better.

I love the forest green gown worn by the girl who will perform "Let It Go" from 'Frozen' and I agree the muted neutrals are not what I consider great fashion looks for the red carpet for the Oscars. Where is the Hollywood glam? I think Julia Roberts looked pretty in the black but she has chosen better before imo.

The there is the clumsy one-who fell again-Jennifer Lawrence took a spill on the wet red carpet in a red dress. She needs to wear sneakers if she can't handle a gown and heels. Please no awards for her tonight. Enough awards for her this year.

We couldn't get it Admin. I've had a good old chuckle reading your reviews on the fashion however.

(waves to Capricious  flower ) lol! and how I agree with you both about the boring fashion colours of today. Wow, I was just discussing this on the stamps thread. You're like me with choice of bright zesty colours which look stunning. I hate beiges and creams too along with just black on its own. The colour choices of today are horrendous. Sounds like the red carpet celebs were a let down with this then,.

Colour, colour!!! where is it  86th Academy Awards - March 2, 2014 560333705 86th Academy Awards - March 2, 2014 407633263 86th Academy Awards - March 2, 2014 694993440 86th Academy Awards - March 2, 2014 2224629404

Looks like a Adam Lambert with short hair. HOWEVER with that girlyman ombre long hair. Not so much - just sayin' Not that impressed that he won an OSCAR for dressing in drag. Like that's never been done before by actual REAL actors that didn't win jack for amazing performances as it HAS been done before when it was actually a topic needing discussion. Retread of a story and retread with fakes getting Oscars (MM and JL imo)
