Hey there fanmily - couldn't sleep last night so went window shopping online at Amazon.  Here are the titles I'm thinking of ordering.  If any of you have read them or heard bad stuff about any of them please let me know.
Remember the Time: Protecting Michael Jackson in His Final Days by Bill Whitfield; Javon Beard; Tanner Colby - it's a pre-order - not released yet

Defending a King: His Life and Legacy by Dr. Karen Moriarty

Michael Jackson the Maestro by Chris Cadman

Earth song:  Inside Michael Jackson's Magnum Opus by Joseph Vogel

Featuring Michael Jackson: Collected Writings on the King of Pop by Joseph Vogel

Michael Jackson: Visual Documentary Update by Adrian Grant

Michael Jackson: Life of a Legend 1958 - 2009 by Michael Heatley

Thanks for any of your in put.  Next I'll send what I've purchased and read and thoughts about them.

Admin edit: Due to the personal convo's happening in this thread it is being moved to Off Topic Forum. We love this personal quest for MJ books and encourage asking for suggestions for what is acceptable MJ material. There is much that is not. Just a word to the wise. Wink

Never heard of some of them, except for the Earth Song one. But I don't have it. Do you have Moonwalk? I HIGHLY recommend it! Michael wrote it!

Yes that was one of the first and I've read it many times. I'd like to get the Moonwalk DVD but it seems to be only available in blue ray and I don't have one of those. I'll probably get the ones by Joseph Vogel because his other one has been good reading about Michael. Most of them had previews and sounded good not badgering MJ but still revealing faults as we knew he had. I'll see and keep you posted.

Yes I really enjoy Man In The Music...being able to look up a song and see where MJ was at mentally and how the songs came about.

I'll check Amazon again as I might have been reading it wrong. I like Amazon because I can use my credit card and items are delivered. I've never even been on EBay.

Michael Jackson Books I personally want to order Empty Re: Michael Jackson Books I personally want to order

Post by Ploppy Tue Apr 15, 2014 11:44 am

Hello my ladies:

Just received my book Behind the Mask...the one that speaks of MJ's body language. I've just read 43 pages on the Oprah Winfrey Interview with Michael 1993 and what a ***** she was to him when you read about his body language. This author Craig James Baxter backs up his readings through other body language readers and cites them. The next interview is MJ's Statement from his Neverland Valley Ranch on December 22, 1993; then MJ's 1996 Police Interview which (according to footage) was filmed at 3:29 pm on March 1, 1996; then Living with Michael Jackson interview - Martin Bashir February 3, 2003; then Take Two: The Footage You Were Never Meant to See (Martin Bashir Rebuttal video) February 23, 2003; then the book has final thoughts and Body Language Terminology and a Bibliography and Websites.
I have my exercise class at 2:00 - 2:30 pm this afternoon but I think I will dive right back into this book. As of the first 43 pages about Oprah's interview I recommend the book. Even though MJ is gone it is sad hearing once again how people attacked him and he still remained a gentleman to them. I don't remember that interview but it's probably on You Tube so I'd like to watch it and follow with the body language. She actually asked him if he was still a virgin...on national TV. He crossed his legs tighter and held onto his hand and said "a gentleman doesn't tell of those things". Apparently that showed how much he detested Oprah!

Ugh I know, people treated him so horribly but he was still a gentleman and welcoming to them. I really HATED it when Opera asked him about being a virgin, that was invasive and imho a very inappropriate question. Other than all that I hope the book is good Ploppy

Michael Jackson Books I personally want to order Empty Re: Michael Jackson Books I personally want to order

Post by Ploppy Tue Apr 15, 2014 5:06 pm

ijustcan'tstoplovingyuMJ it's not really a story to read it tells about reading someone's body language. "Blocking gesture" is one that MJ did a lot - done to block out the cause of stress. Can be performed with the legs, arms, hands, eyelids or any object. When we feel threatened, our natural instinct is to create a barricade between ourselves and the cause of the stress.
Let me start with the very beginning of the interview. The interview starts with Oprah Winfrey introducing Michael, who proceeds to walk towards her. Their initial greeting is performed with a very soft handshake initially offered by Oprah, and Michael further extends the greeting by giving Oprah a kiss on her cheek. Before Michael has the opportunity to take his seat, Oprah bluntly asks him "How nervous are you right now?" Michael takes his seat, and looks distinctly flustered. He responds by saying "How what?" It is very unlikely that he did not hear the question, as the room was silent and he made eye contact with Oprah when she spoke. This type of avoidance can be prevalent when someone hasn't had enough time to formulate an answer due to being caught unawares. Michael was probably embarrassed about the abruptness of this question during their opening salutation display. Michael now answers the original question and states that he never gets nervous, however he tightens his lips in the process, which is a contradictory gesture. This body language behaviour can be seen when someone is experiencing discomfort, and this immediate silent response from Michael tells me (the author) that he wasn't quite expecting to be made to feel so uncomfortable in his own home within the first few seconds of the interview. Tightening of the lips is a classic universal behaviour, often performed out of frustration or nerves.
Here's another:
Oprah then asks Michael why he grabs his crotch during his performances, and he initially seems embarrassed by this question and laughs nervously, making a partial eye block with his hand. Hiding our eyes with our hands is behaviour commonly seen when we suffer embarrassment or disblief. Again Michael mirrors this question back to Oprah - "why do I grab my crotch?" - his posture immediately switches back to one we have seen previously in this interview, where he crosses his legs and pulls his bent leg towards him for added security. He again makes fist gestures to emphasize that when he hears the bass, he becomes the bass; he then switches his hand gesture into a more slow and deliberate display when he states that when you hear the cello, you become the cello. These silent messages transmit a very distinct change in musical mimicry. Michael states that his crotch grab comes from the music, and is not necessarily a conscious action.
And the last one:
Oprah then (quite unbelievably and blatantly) asks Michael if he's a virgin. Michael is so understandably astonished at such an intrusive question that he instinctively places his hands over his eyes to block out the eye contact between the two of them, and giggles in a self-conscious way. Often when we are extremely embarrassed we go to great lengths to avoid eye contact, as for instance, children will often run and hide when they experience something embarrassing. Adults have adapted the barrier, but it has not lost any of its childhood innocence. Michael again makes a tight-lipped facial expression, which as discussed, is a classic indicator of concealed anger. He tries to laugh off this question, and states that he's a gentleman and is embarrassed by it, but his tight lips reveal that he was exceptionally displeased by this abrupt and disrespectful question.
That's a few of the stories. So it isn't a story book about Michael but it is about his feelings shown through his body language. I'm hoping to see if I can learn how to read body languages more closely. I hope you enjoy what I've sent to you and I really do think it is a worthwhile piece of literature to get...remember Michael always taught to read and learn new experiences. I think this book will also show more depth into Michael and his feelings. Did anyone stop to count the number of times I typed the word embarrassing or any form of that word? I didn't but I sure knew I was typing it a lot.

Thats a very interesting piece of information,  thank you. I know Michael knew how to read facial expressions, and I think it would be kind of cool to know what his body language meant to see how he was feeling and if he was uncomfortable,  which imo he was when doing most interviews,  unless he truely trusted the person doing the interview.  It reminds me of why he wore sunglasses durring some interviews,  it was a sense of comfort for him since he is exposing some of himself to the public. Which I couldn't blame him at all

I've just lost a lot of respect for Oprah...such questions to ask even if it was to be no holds barred. Yeah, Oprah when did you lose your virginity was it by the family member who sexually assaulted you. Why haven't you married Stedman, are you really gay with your close friend Gayle King? Is that why you gave her her own show on your network that is tanking? Does Stedman have sexual relationships with other women?
How does that feel?

Now that's what you get for picking on Michael with embarrassing questions. She goes on about did he propose to Elizabeth Taylor, and then the Elephant Man bones, and the hyperbaric chamber, all the crap that the papparazzi and sleezy reporters had gone over. So how high are you Miss O

Yes, she brought Liz into the interview and sat her in the chair that Michael was sitting in, because of course he stood up to greet Liz. Then poor Michael didn't know where he was to sit and then Oprah asked Liz "did Michael ever propose to you" Liz was sharp she has not proposed to Michael either. and Michael is still standing there without a chair. Then Oprah asks Liz what is the misunderstood thing about Michael and Liz responds that he is the least "weird" person she has ever known; rather he is highly intelligent, shrewd and intuitive. Still without a chair Michael is made to feel that he is in the principal's office to be disciplined. So now Michael has lost his status and Oprah's questions now seem quite condescending, almost like Michael isn't there. I can hardly wait to get out of this chapter but it is now going to golf cart rides around Neverland.
This book is a hoot when it is broken down into body language. Michael was some ticked off, The book a glossary at the back of body language signs and what they mean, very interesting. Maybe I'll give writing every day and you will have "read" the book or have a better idea if you really want to own a copy.

Michael Jackson Books I personally want to order Empty Re: Michael Jackson Books I personally want to order

Post by MjjPureSoul Mon Apr 21, 2014 5:24 pm

lol, I've only just spotted this topic.

Apparantly the book by Karen Moriety is one to avoid. Not quite sure why, I think there was a big discussion ages ago about who she was. Some people believed she was just a fan who gathered lots of news and info on Michael and had it published into this book. It was either this person (K. Moriety) or someone else.

Yes, definitely get Moonwalk the book. It's a good read.

I have the Oprah/Michael interview on DVD (I first had it on video which I taped when it was on TV) That's right, she did ask Michael if he was a virgin and his simple reply was 'I'm a gentleman'. I'm embarrassed.. And with that she replied by saying 'So you're not going to answer the question'?.. and all Michael kept saying with a giggle was 'I'm a gentleman'. Michael was sat on what looked like a very uncomfortable wooden dining chair throughout the entire interview (90mins) and his legs were crossed all the time. I don't think that was for any other reason except for comfort. My hubby sits the same on those types of chairs because they aren't the comfiest of things to sit on for long periods lol. As for Michael's arm positions during the interview, again. just the norm, sometimes with them resting on the chairs arms and other times just resting by his side.  Smile

I loved! it when Liz came into the room and Michael lead her to his chair for her to sit in (being the charming gent he was of course) and he stood beside her with his hands hung comfortably behind his back. The greatest part was where he gave oprah a crafty glance from his eye corner for a second or 2 lol! as his head was very slightly turned away from her and it was the way his eyes just darted across to her as if to say "Good grief I'm bored"  Laughing

Me too! LOL it's the comfiest way to sit except on the sofa I like sit with my legs curled up on it because the sofa cushions are wide, if I sit straight my feet don't reach the floor lol. It's ok if your tall though  Laughing

Yeah Michael's corner glare cracks me up too it's priceless isn't it. Also that little bit when Oprah asks Liz if Michael had ever proposed to her, she answers with a real high pitched 'Nnnno' and it follows with a real dirty muffled sounding snigger.

LMAO. I'll have to see if I can get that little part off youtube to put here for a giggle. It's great.

Sorry guys I do not see this as a "happy" interview for Michael. He is clearly uncomfortable and pissed off that he is left standing...gentleman or not...it is his home and his interview and he does not need ET telling how great he is and what the world doesn't know about him. Did you read any of the responses listed below the you tube interview...not too many happy go lucky Michael. A couple of people did notice the poor body language that Michael was sending out.

Michael could have said NO WAY to that interview if he wanted ploppy. He wasn't forced to do anything. It was Michael's choice. He wasn't daft when it came to being questioned, he had his own good way of dealing with certain stuff under pressure. We all know how he used to play tricks on people because he was a fun character to have around. The high speaking voice he used to put on for instance, was soley for the press/media to get them gossing. That's why the media always used negative stuff against how he 'spoke'. This was Michael's way of p!ssing them off, they had no clue he did it deliberately to them. I know it was Michael's first proper interview but I think he had more oil in his lamp (so to speak). He really could have said no to that interview if he felt uneasy about it and cut it midway if he wanted. The worst being the Bashir interview  Mad The mistake Michael made there by inviting him and that was only because he trusted the bloke.

but yes the Bashir interview was a BIG mistake, but he didn't know itbwould turn out like that. Bashir played him, which was WRONG in soo many ways.

Not to worry ploppy, I didn't want you to think I was having a go at you. I hoped the way I tried to explain things didn't appear harsh or misunderstood. It's hard when it's put on a screen because we can't hear how the person says things LOL. No need to feel embarrassed either  Wink There's times we do forget about Michael's little tricks and how he often used to pull them on people  Laughing I have a dvd called Dangerous Diary, it is like a documentary about Michael's 1992/93 Dangerous tour. It takes the camera back stage and shows how the tour was all set up etc. Besides all the short clips from various arenas on the tour it also interviewed all the band members and Greg Philingaines was the one who was mostly asked questions about Michael. It was him who said that Michael's voice was naturally deep and normal, saying that the high voice he put on was just for the media/press  Smile

It is hilarious IJCSLuMJ, the way he wound people up with it  Laughing  Yes, that was our Michael, ladies.
