Barbecue starts fire at former Neverland Ranch

An improperly maintained outdoor barbecue hood system was the cause of a fire this morning at Sycamore Valley Ranch in Los Olivos, formerly known as Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch.
There were no injuries or damage to any structures, said Capt. David Sadecki, spokesman for the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
A meal was being prepared at the time of the blaze, and the barbecue has been shut down for repairs, he added.
About 10:08 a.m., three engines responded to a report of a structure fire at 5225 Figueroa Mountain Road, with assistance from the U.S. Forest Service.
The first unit to arrive reported the blaze was out, so the other two engines were called off, Sadecki said.
During its heyday as Jackson’s iconic home, the 2,800-acre ranch property featured a mansion, a zoo and an amusement park with bumper cars, a merry-go-round and Ferris wheel, and was the site of lavish children’s parties and a live televised interview with Oprah Winfrey in 1993 that drew 90 million viewers.
The property also had its own fire department.

Whoa! Thank goodness this wasn't catastrophic! That would be the biggest heartbreak ever! People PUT OUT your fires PLEASE! This could have been yet another horrible CA wildfire!!

I see other MJ places chat about what the heck is up with people BBQ-ing at Neverland! For one thing, people own it and it is called Sycamore Valley Ranch, it is supposedly having a lot of renovating and the grounds and gardens are being cared for, so I don't get the noise about the "who is yadayada doing this there" nonsense!
Anybody else see this rhetoric happening? This is what gives MJ fans a bad name, all that self agrandizing and self righteousness. it is nobody's business to be acting all 'who was doing this' as if to say how dare they. I don't know it just annoys me to see people being so disrespectful. They are not in charge of anything so IMO they should simmer and quit the silliness already

@ Capricious Anomaly...When I first learned that there really was a fire at the ranch, I too wondered who these people were who were having a BBQ there and why. I was under the impression that the property was currently empty pending plans to restore it. As far as the open concern from the fans - I think it is just them expressing their love and protectiveness of the land that Michael loved so much. I wrote a Neverland poem that I have shared on other sites in the past...perhaps I could share it with you guys if you want. God Bless.
