On May 18, 1988 Michael Jackson moved out of Hayvenhurst, the family's Encino home, to his recently purchased ranch in the Santa Ynez Valley about 100 miles north of Los Angeles. The 2,700 acre "Sycamore Valley Ranch" was soon renamed "Neverland Valley Ranch" from Michael's favorite book, "Peter Pan", the boy from Never Never Land.
