As we approach December 25, Christmas once again; it is exactly 18 months since the world shifted, cried, and was forever altered. It was not just millions of people across the planet who were jolted from their everyday existence with Michael’s passing, Mother Earth herself felt the loss. Did you feel the light and energy shift, flicker and dim? All of God’s creation, human and non, is sensitive to a change in nature of that magnitude. Perhaps human awareness is missing, but the tiniest atoms of life react to quantum changes in the very composition of matter, as it did that day.
Michael’s love energy encompassed all of us; every one of us, as well as his beloved creatures and all life nurtured by Planet Earth. Such profound love becomes imbedded in creation, and yes, taken for granted as simply the way it is. Change that; lose the spark, and the essence of being changes. This time, forever.
And what of Christmas? In my life this season represents blessed birth, peace, and loving goodwill. It is a time of family united and errs forgiven, sometimes humorously so. Days of preparation and thoughts of another’s happiness and smiles; beauty in twinkling lights, and babies with round, amazing eyes viewing miracles at every turn. This season evokes memories of candlelit churches, and honey tinged air with voices raised in hymns on snow covered lanes and porches.
Many of us do not necessarily celebrate Christmas, Michael among them. His traditions changed with the birth of his own children, unselfishly allowing them to experience this giving season in ways different from his own. Memories are precious possessions; gifted with love, held close, that warm us in life. Michael understood this. He believed that extending a loving hand to others was, and is, a daily responsibility. One day or one season each year, was too narrow and limited for a loving heart such as his.
Michael Jackson lived every day of his life in the act of love. Because he felt the world’s pain, he did his best to assuage that pain with lifelong contributions to sick and needy children, families torn by trauma or quiet loss, the unfortunate among us who cried out for moments of fun, and a chance to revisit childhood. Michael nurtured the earth that nurtured him, with music and a message loud and passionate. God’s creatures became his friends; at times his closest friends, loved and cared for with gentle concern and touch.
And why do I miss Michael at Christmas? Because I didn’t realize that he embodied so very much of what we are asked to do in this life. Because I didn’t know or listen to a voice in my world that spoke and acted on what we are here to do. On the day he quietly left, I heard him. Grief and love melded together and remain. In this season of expressed love for others, I can only love the spirit of a man and the gifts he left. Oh, and those gifts are special; unique God blessed talent shared with his world remains forever to enjoy; a body moves and a voice sings for all of us, on tape and vinyl and movie reels…
So, once again Christmas comes with lights and melody and a small boy’s joyous laughter. Grown children will recall mothers and fathers now gone, faded photos of sisters, together laughing and unconcerned about tomorrow. Memories of simpler days, and Christmas of years past wrapped up in ribbons of today. Children of now will experience traditions of before, passed on by older folks to become new and shiny again. Life moves on and….
In a quiet moment, on December 25, thoughts and prayers will flow from my heart to Michael. Merry Christmas, special man…peace where you are today. Thank you, always, for the gift of love and model for giving. You are missed everyday, and especially now when love is heightened you are here, and when giving is contagious, that love you always spoke of shines brightly. You are loved, loved more, and loved most…
