Michael Jackson’s Family Reportedly Trying to Keep His Children’s Paternity Records Private in New Trial by Julie Miller

March 19, 2013

Ahead of the Jackson family’s wrongful-death lawsuit against AEG Live—the concert promoter behind Michael Jackson’s “This Is It Tour”—the family is trying to establish certain matters as off limits for use as evidence, according to TMZ. Michael Jackson’s mother, Katherine, and his three children (Prince, Paris, and Blanket) are suing AEG for a reported $40 billion, alleging that the concert promoter put pressure on Jackson's personal physician Conrad Murray to have Michael ready for daily tour rehearsals, which led to his fatal overdose on June 25, 2009. (Per CNN, AEG suggests that Jackson—not AEG—was Murray's employer, and that he personally invited Murray to join him on tour “long before anyone at AEG had even heard of him.”)

The family has reportedly filed documents alleging that certain information is irrelevant to the trial—specifically, details on the conception of Jackson’s children, the financial circumstances of other family members, and the accusations of child molestation that Jackson faced.

While Prince Jackson, the singer’s oldest child, is expected to testify about his father’s final days, Murray has already stated that he will not be. The physician, who was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter, by administering a fatal overdose of sedatives and Propofol, has said that if he is called to testify, he will plead the Fifth.

Jury selection in the trial will begin on April 2 in Los Angeles County court.
