Katherine Jackson snaps back at AEG lawyer

Michael Jackson’s mother was “confused” on the witness stand Monday.
Katherine Jackson was called to testify in the ongoing civil trial stemming from her wrongful death lawsuit against concert promoters AEG Live.
The matriarch is suing the firm for negligence in the hiring and supervision of Conrad Murray, who worked as Michael’s doctor during preparations for his ill-fated comeback concert series.
Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after administering the fatal dose of an aesthetic propofol that killed the singer in 2009. Michael is said to have used the drug as a sleeping aid.
The New York Daily News reports Katherine “lost her cool” when a lawyer for the defence asked her to recall details of a private conversation she had with Michael in Las Vegas when he denied abusing drugs.
"I'm not answering that question,” she said, adding that it "didn't make sense”.
"You're just getting me confused so you'll have something to come back on," she snapped.
Katherine said she never witnessed Michael abusing drugs but admitted that the family staged an intervention at Neverland Ranch in 2002.
Michael appeared to be sober at the time and was upset by their efforts.
"There were no deep discussions or anything like that. When we got there, he was okay, he was upset. It was kind of embarrassing,” she confessed.
The defence lawyer then asked about an open letter Katherine signed in 2007 in which she denies the pop star had a drug problem. The letter also denies any intervention was held.
"Why would you sign it if it wasn't true?" the lawyer asked.
"I wanted [to stop] things that weren't true," she said.
Katherine blamed Murray for being reckless with her son’s care.
"Even though he asked for [propofol], [Murray] could have said no," she said.
She was also asked about her son’s finances but declined to answer questions over the star’s money matters.
"I don't want to get into this," she said.
AEG’s lead counsel Marvin Putnam claims Katherine was unaware of Michael’s true condition, just like executives at AEG.
"As Katherine Jackson has now testified, she was in the dark about her son Michael Jackson's decades of drug use and 'closes her ears' whenever someone discloses anything negative about him," he told the News following her first day of testimony Friday.
"She doesn't want anyone or anything to disturb her idealised memory of the child she lost. Who can blame her?” he asked.
