Tape Problem Empty Tape Problem

i bought a tape player today, and i just tried playing my Thriller tape and WATW tape and instead of the voices sounding like they usually do, they sound very high pitched and quite fast, what does this mean? does it need to be dusted?
i didn't know where else to put this. Google didn't help i just tried
