The US 2012 Presidential Election ~ VOTE PEOPLE VOTE!

This thread is not necessarily for the MJ fan~mily to discuss their ideologies as this can result in pretty firey and devisive rhetoric. I do not want individual political views and beliefs to drive wedges between people. This is a Michael Jackson L.O.V.E. site---

BUT: I do think we all should VOTE!! So all US citizens of voting age...I encourage you to do your level best to get to the polls and vote tomorrow

It is your constitutional right which was hard fought for you and every single US citizen and btw- how can we rag and crab about politicians and the state of our Union if we do not participate and vote our conscience, right?

I will report back to this thread when I get back from voting tomorrow morning to say I VOTED!!

I can't vote until the next presidential election- but I am very involved in politics because my dad made sure from a young age that I knew what was going on with my government and my country and I am very glad that he did that for me.

I live in VA- a huge swing state- so of course literally every other commercial on every TV station is a political ad.I just wanted to share an ad that I saw on TV the other day that disturbed me. It was a pro-Romney ad talking about early in Obama's presidency. Obama was talking to one of Vladimir Putin's henchman. When both of them thought that the mics were off Obama was heard whispering that he would be much more "flexible" after he was elected a second term. I asked my dad if this was true because I had never heard it on the news and he said he remembered hearing it on FOX a couple of years ago. Has anyone else seen this ad?

OMG that's right! I remember they had mentioned that about Obama saying that on a hot mic-that is disgraceful! What is he anyway? He seems so anti-American after getting to see his agendas and his cramming through that nightmare Obamacare crap-I remember Pelosi saying that after they shoved it down the throats of the American people they would try to figure out what all the GD law even had in it!! WOW what a bunch of idiots!

There are a ton of Obama commercials this morning here in Virginia. I've only seen 1 Romney ad and at least 4 or 5 Obama ads in the past hour that I've been up and watching TV.

To everyone who is eligible to vote make sure that you get out and vote today! With an election as close as it's looking your vote does count! They are saying that some states may be as close as a couple thousand votes!

New Black Panthers back at Philly voting site

A member of the New Black Panther Party who was charged with voter intimidation in the 2008 election for standing outside a Philadelphia polling site was back Tuesday morning – in an official capacity.

Jerry Jackson, who was charged in the 2008 case along with Minister King Samir Shabazz, but later saw charges dropped by the Department of Justice, was seen early Tuesday outside a North Philadelphia voting site wearing the group’s trademark black beret, combat-style uniform and heavy boots. Fox News confirmed he is a designated poll watcher.

“No comment,” Jackson said when approached by a reporter at 1221 Fairmount Ave., in the city’s 14th Ward, where he lurked on Election Day in 2008.

One voter who didn't mind Jackson's presence was Robin Spriggs, 50.
"We need it," she said. "It doesn't matter the color, the creed or anything like that. They protect everyone."

There were also reports of New Black Panther Party members at polling sites in Cleveland, Ohio, where they have also maintained a presence at early voting sites. Critics complain that they are an intimidating presence and could discourage white voters, who may be more likely to vote Republican, from entering polling sites.

Unlike in the 2008 election, members of the organization labeled as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center were not wielding billy clubs or forming clusters. In 2008, members of the New Black Panthers wore black paramilitary garb and stood in front of the doors leading to a polling place in Philadelphia. In that case, the Department of Justice later narrowed the charges against Minister King Shabazz and dismissed the charges against the party and Jackson.

Dismissal of the charges prompted critics to complain that Attorney General Eric Holder and the Obama administration showed racial bias. Christian Adams resigned from the department in 2010 in protest of the administration's handling of the case.

Holder has rejected claims that his department considered the race of white alleged victims of voter intimidation in dropping the charges. The case and its handling by the Department of Justice is currently being investigated by the United States Commission on Civil Rights.

Shabazz said in September that the New Black Panthers, who have called for the killing of whites and Jews, might monitor polling places again in 2012. But he said they would not carry night sticks or billy clubs.

“But whatever we will do, it will be legal and lawful under the Constitution of the United States," Shabazz told “Aaron Klein Investigative Radio.”

A group of retired Navy SEALs and other former special ops service members vowed to counter any attempt to intimidate voters by sending teams to sites in Philadelphia, Cleveland, Miami and Las Vegas. Former Navy Capt. Benjamin Brink told Philadelphia radio station IQ 106.9 FM more than a hundred former SEALs, Army Rangers, Delta Force operatives and Green Berets volunteered for the job. But he said his men will not provoke confrontation, but rather "watch for intimidation, videotape it, if possible, and report it to the proper authorities.”


Zack Stalberg, president and CEO of the Committee of Seventy, a Philadelphia government watchdog group, said his group had received no complaints as of midday Tuesday regarding the presence of New Black Panther Party officials at polling stations.

"We haven't received any complaints at all," Stalberg said.

This morning, after voting in my own neighborhood, I stopped by the polling place on the 1200 block of Fairmount Avenue, the same location where the New Black Panther Party stirred up controversy during the 2008 election. Sure enough, a uniformed member of the New Black Panther Party stood in the entrance area of the building. I identified myself and told him that I was going to take his picture. “No pictures, please,” he replied. I then asked him if he was there to provide security. “No comment,” was all he had to say.

Would you care if a uniformed Black Panther seemed to be standing guard in front of your polling place?

Personal note: WTH? Look at this link and read the comments! That's a scary thing to see when someone's trying to exercise their right to vote!

Yes the VA polls are about to close. Weird voting things happening today. They changed the polling places of some people without telling them- and voting machines were also messing up again this morning- so people that this happened to had to leave for work and some did not come back that afternoon to vote.

I have a feeling that Romney will win VA- in 2008 Obama signs were EVERYWHERE. Now this year I have hardly seen any Obama signs and there are Romney and Allen/Hurt ( both republican senate and house people) signs all over the place.

They also said that the race in VA between Tim Kaine (former D VA governor who is aggravating and has been campaigning with Obama for awhile now) and George Allen for Senate has been the most expensive race besides the presidential.

This is my first election day in which I was able to vote, it's really exciting for me!

Oh congratulations midangerous! I remember when I was able to first vote too when I was old enough!! I had missed the Presidential election date by I think a day so I had to wait until I was in my early 20's to vote my 1st Presidential election! It is always exciting - so each 4 year cycle as you grow older and vote - you will see it never gets old and is always an electric evening watching the tally come in!
