On November 20, 1984 Michael received his star on Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Just four years after a star on Hollywood Boulevard’s ‘Walk Of Fame’ was dedicated to the Jacksons, on 20th November 1984 Michael was honoured with his own star.
He was the 1793rd celebrity to be so recognised, but the very first to capture two different stars. At his own request, the star was situated outside Mann’s Chinese Theater.
About 6,000 fans turned out for the presentation, the largest crowd to ever attend such a presentation. Michael appeared at the unveiling of the star for a full 3 minutes, then he was advised by security to leave as the crowd grew out of control.
A podium and stage had been set up, as the world's most famous entertainer was to be honored on the world's most famous sidewalk, Hollywood's Walk of Fame, a permanent monument that recognizes his life-long contribution to show business.
When Michael mounted the podium, with his mother Katherine, father Joe and Hollywood honorary Mayor Johnny Grant, he waved to the crowd with his gloved hand and delivered a speech of five words:
"Thank you very, very much!"
Fearful that some 6,000 frenzied fans who filled the streets had rebuffed crowd-control efforts, superstar Michael Jackson made the shortest acceptance speech-five words-in the history of Hollywood Walk of Fame dedication ceremonies. Concerned for the safety of the 6,000 fans who turned out to witness the unveiling ceremony, Michael was forced to abandon his planned speech.

Michael's unveiling of his Hollywood Boulevard star, No. 1,793 on the 'Walk Of Fame,' which is located in front of Mann's ["Grauman's" is the correct name] Chinese Theater between the stars of country singer Lefty Frizzell and actress Lupe Velez. He Michael becomes the first celebrity to have two different stars dedicated to him, having first received one as a member of The Jacksons in the '70s.

Update: In 2013, they sold the naming rights of the theatre, and as a result, the official name is now "TCL Chinese Theatre", named after the Chinese electronics company that paid $5 million for the right to slap their name on the marquee. Of course, it will always be called Grauman's Chinese by the public. Trying to rename something as well-known and historic as Grauman's Chinese is like trying to rename the Eiffel Tower. You might convince the media to play along, but the public knows better.
On the bright side, the current owners (producer Donald Kushner & Elie Samaha) used some of that money to turn the interior of Grauman's into the largest IMAX theatre in the world (in terms of seating capacity) with 986 tiered seats and a 94-foot wide screen. They promised to leave the historic elements of the theatre interior intact, but they hope that the new IMAX screen will allow the theatre to host even more movie premieres than usual (as well as providing a more comfortable, modern viewing experience for the audience). The theatre was be closed briefly, from May until September 2013, but is now open again with its new IMAX screen.
